Liberation Route Europe in Great Britain

Britain was one of the most important Allied powers of the Second World war. After the defeat of France in 1940 Britain faced Nazi Germany on its own until the United States and Soviet Union joined the war in 1941. British forces fought on almost every front while the civilian population endured attacks by the German air force and later by the V-weapons. In 1944 Britain also became the staging ground for the Allied invasion of Western Europe.
