London played an important role in nearly every aspect of the Second World War. The city was host to several governments in exile after the Nazi conquest of Europe and was a vital centre for the planning of the Allied war efforts. London was bombed during the Blitz and later on during the war it was hit by V1 and V2 rockets. Despite these attacks the population of London remained defiant until the victory over Nazi-Germany was achieved in 1945.
