Juno Beach Centre, partner of Liberation Route Europe

www.junobeach.org

The Juno Beach Centre is located in Courseulles-Sur-Mer between Arromanches and Ouistreham in the Calvados department of Normandy, France. Located on the very location of where Canadians came ashore as part of the Allied Operation Overlord on June 6th 1944, the Juno Beach Centre offers a uniquely Canadian perspective not just on the D-Day landings, but on the Second World War as a whole.

As a museum and education centre, the Juno Beach Centre’s permanent exhibition covers an area of 650m2 and tells the story of the Canadians who volunteered for military service or mobilized their energies, skills and resources at home, thereby contributing greatly to the war effort. The museum alternates between areas of emotion and reflection through personal accounts and real-life stories and, above all, the presentation of the society that these combatants bequeathed to their children and that now forms Canada. The exhibition features documents, photographs, audiovisual and audio accounts, multimedia, maps and artefacts. Temporary exhibits feature Canadian cultural and military themes on a rotating basis and etc. Created by an association of Canadian Second World veterans and their families and supporters, the Juno Beach Centre is run as a not-for-profit organization supported by the Canadian government and in which young Canadian guides carry-on the legacy of their forefathers to inform the public about Canada’s role in the Second World War.

"At the Juno Beach Centre, we are happy to work with Liberation Route Europe. This partnership for us is the symbol of a sincere and deep wish to transmit our shared memory with new generations.”

Don Cooper, Président de la Juno Beach Centre Association Canada
