In 1944 Canadian troops liberated the western part of Zeeuws-Flandres. The debris has long been cleared up and finding remains of the Second World War in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen has become difficult. To prevent this important historical event from falling into oblivion War Museum ‘Switchback’ opened its doors in 1995. The museum, a private collection of Erik Adriaansen, is named after the Canadian military operation ‘Switchback’.
After entering the museum, visitors travel back in time. War scenes are realistically reconstructed. The museum also offers an impressive collection of military objects from both the occupying forces and the Canadian liberators. Photographs illustrate the allied operations in 1944 to conquer the Westerschelde estuary.
