The Battle of Woensdrecht, Ossendrecht
The Volksabdij at Ossendrecht was a very special location during World War II. After the devastating Bombing of Rotterdam, the wounded and the ill were nursed at this abbey. At the same time, the abbey hosted the friars of Huijbergen, the military police, the Germans and even fugitives hiding from the Germans! After the war, the abbey became a shelter for children of delinquents during a short period of time. Both during and after the war, the Volksabdij was a safe haven for many. So come and spend some time at this unique location, at the heart of extensive woodlands and Brabant's gateway to nature.
