150. Liberated after a rain of bombs

On the 4th of November 1944, the residents of Dinteloord are awaiting their liberators. But, totally unexpectedly, the Allies bomb the village. Liberation comes eventually, but Dinteloord is destroyed and grieves for the many casualties.

For many residents of Dinteloord, liberation was a traumatic experience. On the 4th of November 1944, allied fighter-bombers unexpectedly dived out of the skies and bombed the village. People fled in panic. Everyone was looking for a safe refuge. Two Protestant churches and the Catholic church were destroyed. The village suffered huge damage and there were many deaths among the residents.

Liberation had finally come, but the memory of the horror that preceded it surpassed everything.
